Ceramic Courses at Sturt Summer School

There are still positions available in two of the
ceramic courses being offered at the popular Sturt
Summer School which will once again be held in Mittagong,
N.S.W. Australia from 6th to 11th January,
2003.
Ian Currie will give a workshop to help students
become glaze experts in their own right. Using a recipe method without
complicated calculations, students will be able to develop new glazes
as well as understand important glaze principles. This class is
suitable for all levels, from beginner to professional. Ian has
spent most of his life working in the field of pottery and glazes.
Ian has written two textbooks on glazes that have become standard
references in many college and university ceramics courses. He regularly
conducts glaze workshops in Australia and each year undertakes one
or two workshop tours of the USA.
Sue Buckle will take a children’s class in creative
claywork, designed to expand students’ imagination and explore a
range of handbuilding techniques using the surrounding environment
for inspiration. The projects are suitable for both beginner and
more experienced children. Sue Buckle was editor of the popular
magazine Pottery in Australia for many years. She continues to make
pots as well as regularly teach children.
Other courses offered include a cappella singing, batik, bookbinding,
writing, montage, jewellery, tapestry. The wide choice of workshops,
the stunning location and wonderful atmosphere combine to make the
Sturt Summer School a unique experience. The Summer School will
run from 6th - 11th January, 2003 at Sturt Craft Centre, Mittagong
