Elaine Coleman
Contemporary American Potter
Elaine
Coleman studied ceramics at Pacific Northwest College of
Art, Oregon in 1966-1967. She has been a studio potter ever since
and has also worked as a gallery director.
Elaine has become well known for her incised, celadon-glazed porcelain
work, most of which is based on the vessel form. The green or blue-green
translucent celadon glazes enhance the carved decoration. Recently
she has also been adding clay (in contrast to incising) to make
another layer and surface dimension.
Elaine's
pots have been purchased by numerous public institutions, e.g. Sapporo
City Collection, Japan, the University of Illinois Permanent Collection,
IL., the Portland Art Museum, OR. and others and her work has been
written about in numerous magazine articles and books.
Elaine
now lives and works in Nevada with her husband Tom
Coleman, an accomplished potter in his own right. Their
work is available online through Aquarius
Art Gallery.
