Potters' Pets

Indy, Geezer & Friends

Well, Felix, I think I may hold some sort of record for potters with pets, since I do a lot of cat (and dog) rescue for the local shelters and rescue organizations. As we speak, I'm hosting six cats and ten dogs, five of which are ostensibly foster dogs that are supposed to move on to other homes. However, since I specialize in taking in older dogs, they seldom move on until it's time for them to join other special old friends under the welcoming roots of the cedar grove near the house.

It was hard to choose which pictures to send, but here we have the following:

  1. Feeding Time is a shot of the mom & pups that occupied my pottery studio for 8 weeks, courtesy of the Humane Society.
  2. Indy & Geezer on the couch: Indigo, a bluetick coonhound rescued from a shelter, and Geezer, from the Warm Springs Indian Reservation in Oregon.
  3. Io, aka Princess F--- Y--, insulted at being disturbed in her beauty rest.
  4. Grey kitten, aka Mystic, appreciating the gracefulness of the orchid brushwork on one of my wall pieces.
  5. And Gritsy, an older coonhound found in the Bighorn Mountains, of Wyoming, nobody wants a coonhound that's too old to hunt, so I turn them into couch potatoes. This old girl took a special liking to Baileys Irish Cream and milk over ice, at Christmastime. Pretty sophisticated for an old ranch dog!

Anyway...cats, dogs, and pots. What better life is there?

Pat Colyar, Gold Bar, WA
