Yanze Jiang
Chinese ceramist
Yanze
Jiang is a Chinese ceramist and teacher. She was born in Jiang Su
Province in 1975. In 1997 she earned a BFA from the Nanjing Arts
Institute and in 2002 she received an MFA from Jingdezhen Ceramic
Institute. She now teaches at the Nanjing Arts Institute. In 2003
she was visiting artist at the Jam Factory Ceramic Workshop in Adelaide,
Australia, and at the Australian National University in Canberra.
Yanze
works solely in porcelain. Most of her works are slab-built sculptures
finished with celadon glazes. While Yanze draws on traditional Chinese
materials and glazes, she transcends tradition to make modern, abstract
or conceptual works. More recently she has also been investigating
smoke firing.
'Teapots
on parade' (pictured, left) is a recent work, which won a Merit
Award at the Taiwan First International Ceramics Competition.
