“Printmaking for Beginners” with Emily Arthur Douglass
(USA)
This two-day workshop will focus on the introduction of Relief Printmaking.
Each student will develop, cut and print their own block, working
in Linoleum and hand printing onto traditional papers. The joy of
process, color and experimentation will be encouraged. No previous
printmaking required. Some drawing or photography experience suggested.
Fee: 130 euros members, 150 euros non members. Studio Fee: To be

August 7/8
"Introduction to Stone Carving" with Eric Higgs (USA)
This two-day course will provide instruction in traditional hand
tool methods, such as the use of point, toothed and flat chisels,
and specialized rasps for final shaping. Practical applications
will be the primary emphasis of this course, supported by some theory.
You can expect to complete a small sculpture during the course.
A selection of stone will be available for purchase. This workshop
will be a noncompetitive, light-hearted atmosphere.

August 21
“Porcelain overglaze painting” with Eugenia Loginova
(Latvia)
This workshop is offered to everyone interested and willing to decorate
porcelain, be they children or professionals. All levels are welcome
The white surface of porcelain objects offers a challenge for drawing
and painting, like paper; only special ceramic paints are used.
Participants are encouraged to bring a white porcelain cup or other
item to decorate.
Fee: 65 euros members, 75 euros non members. Studio Fee: 5 euros

“Sketching portraits” with Anatoly Borodkin (Latvia)
Portraits, depicting part of the human body are complicated and
difficult to execute. Certain skills are needed first. The workshop
begins with the participants drawing simple geometric forms or making
plaster models. This is followed by charcoal or pastel drawings
made in about a half hour that give the first impression of the
human form, not unlike a snapshot, but reflecting the artist’s
subjective viewpoint.

August 19, 26 and September 2, 9
“Life Drawing” with Josie Martin (New Zealand)
With a live model, this workshop will focus on 'Way's of seeing',
and will consist of doing a series of exercises which simplify seeing
and drawing. They give experiences of different possibilities of
interpreting or using the figure. These ways of seeing can then
be applied to drawing and painting from any subject, and can lead
to abstraction. Josie encourages participants to realize their own
unique vision, and develop their individual strengths. The workshop
is suitable for all levels including beginners

October 16
“Modeling workshop for large ceramic murals” with Toni
Hambleton (Puerto Rico). Working with small ceramic slabs, different
decoration techniques using engobes and oxides will be explored.
Pie
ces will be high fired. Participants should have some knowledge
of ceramics and be willing to experiment.

October 23
“Raku Workshop”
Originating in Japan, Raku is the process of special glazing and
firing of clay in an atmosphere that encourages the spontaneous
cracks, crackles and color variations unique to each piece. All
levels of experience are welcome, from beginner to expert. Special
attention is given to new to participants to familiarize them with
the raku process. Technical information will be presented in a relaxed
environment. The workshop is followed with a social barbeque and
celebration of the 4 year anniversary of A.I.R. Vallauris.

December 11
“The computer as an artistic tool” with Lillemor Hansson
(Sweden)
This workshop will explore the different ways of using the computer
in artistic work: working directly with the computer or by using
the computer to develop and enhance ones sketches.
