he EDGE - 9th National Australian Ceramics Conference has come and gone. The conference was opened by Greg Crowe, president of the Ceramic Arts Association of Western Australia at the Octagon Theater of the University of Western Australia. RGB projection, various national and international chat ssessions and a live video conference delivered a sriong international presence on the internet. It is anticipated that transcripts of the web chats and keynote speeches will be posted on this site soon.
Keynote speaches were held by Janet Mansfield, Ceramic Artist & Editor of Ceramics Art and Perception and Ceramics Technical;
Paul Mathieu, a potter and teacher from Vancouver, Canada; Edmund de Waal, who trained as a potter, read English at Cambridge, studied the Japanese language and culture at first hand and established four pottery workshops in the UK and in Japan;

A highlight of the conference was the 'Fire Sculpture' made in conjunction with a 7 day workshop with Jorgen Hansen of Denmark. The large outdoor scuplture was built with a fibre skin and then fired in a night time fire performance.
