"Horn" (replica)
20 x 15 cms White earthenware, fine grogged, fired to 1100° C. Rolled thin
slabs, draped and pressed into plaster molds and joined when leather hard.
(Total number of plaster molds used 14). This piece is based on an artifact
which is on display in Stockholm Museum (it's creator unknown), dated around
the 13 th C, perhaps Viking inspired? The original is in fact carved wood.
I developed this replica piece from a more basic horn form I also produce.
Using those same plaster molds that I had made, and used for slipcasting,
creating the replica with the additional 12 pressmoldings, by joining, and
some alterations to the basic form. The finished result is then painted with
a commercial bronze paint kit.
